Memories of Vilar de Mouros between the stage and the "blacksmith school of the region"

José Maria de Barros, an electrician who was part of the team that installed the electrical network for the Vilar de Mouros festival stage in the 1980s, is currently president of the Parish Council. In the old Fontes workshop, where bands such as U2 and The Stranglers performed, José Maria recalls having seen all the groups from start to finish. The space still preserves machinery and belt systems that powered tools from a single motor, heritage that José Maria believes should not disappear, defining it as "the school of nearly all the blacksmiths in the region."

A photography exhibition by Miguel Estima, 48 years old, a neighbor of the venue and native of the village, recovered images from various editions of the festival in the same space as the old workshop. Estima started with approximately two thousand photographs and selected about sixty, seeking to capture not just the musicians, but above all the people and the atmosphere. "The village was completely transformed," describes the photographer.

Estima experienced the festival for the first time in 1996, at age 18, keeping as one of his strongest memories the Young Gods concert. U2 performed in 1982, when he was only four years old, and the concert ended up becoming part
