Ivone Silva started flying alone at the age of 18, after growing up with paragliders hanging at the windows of her home in the parish of Canhas, in Madeira. Just six years later, she became a junior world paragliding champion, a title she achieved representing the national team.
The young woman from Madeira won the title at the 2nd Junior World Championship of the Federation, achieving this impressive feat in just two years of official competition. This result represents the world top for the athlete from the island.
Ivone Silva now intends to use this title to attract more young people to the sport in Portugal. The junior world champion wants to inspire other young people to follow the same path in paragliding, showing that it is possible to reach the highest international competitions in this sports modality.
