A group of archaeologists discovered approximately 1,500 fossils at a Neanderthal camp located in Burgos, Spain. The discovery includes animal remains and stone tools that were used by the Neanderthals.
The camp was used by Neanderthals as a temporary residence, specifically during Spring and Autumn, approximately 46,000 years ago. This seasonal use indicates a nomadic displacement pattern characteristic of this species.
Researchers highlight the importance of this finding for understanding the lifestyle and daily practices of Neanderthals on the Iberian Peninsula. The amount of material found suggests that the site was occupied intensively over several thousand years.
