Monte Gordo beach, in the Sotavento region of the Algarve, gained this summer two new sports facilities in front of the 100 Montaditos restaurant. A beach football field and a volleyball court were installed, structures that have already been discovered and praised by some beachgoers. A visitor shared the discovery in a Facebook post, calling the installation "an excellent idea" and arguing that similar facilities could be distributed at other points along the extensive sandy beach in the Algarve.
According to the same account, the two courts have been quite busy during the beach season, with a particularly visible presence of young people. The beachgoer believes that the facilities have helped enhance this area near the beach, which now has a new recreational function in addition to those already existing.
Monte Gordo beach stands out for its extensive sandy area and higher water temperatures, having become over the past few decades one of the main tourist centers in the region. The local population's relationship with the sea predates the tourist development, having been linked for a long time to fishing activity. Even today, it is still possible to find boats and fishermen in a specific area of the sandy beach, although fishing activity has lost importance.
The author of the post suggests that the installation of sports facilities should not be limited to the area where they were placed this year. "It would be interesting to have more structures like this along the huge sandy stretch that Monte Gordo has," they wrote, after observing the demand that the already installed courts have received among beach visitors.
