Iranian media report that an Iranian oil tanker was hit by United States forces on Saturday morning, near Kharg island, in the Persian Gulf.
The attack reportedly occurred one day after Iran allegedly launched missiles toward the Strait of Hormuz, in an escalation of tensions between the two countries.
Kharg island is known for being an important center for Iran's petroleum exports, which makes this attack particularly significant in the context of the conflict.
The incident increases fears of a broader military escalation in the Persian Gulf region, at a time of great tension between Tehran and Washington.
