Francesco Totti, one of the greatest idols in Roma's history, decided to venture into another sport. The 49-year-old former player officially joined Maxima Roma, a new basketball club from the Italian capital that will compete in the national first division. Totti will be a consultant for the team, with work focused mainly on building the fan base and social responsibility projects.
The agreement will involve millions. According to the Italian newspaper "La Gazzetta dello Sport," Totti signed a three-season contract and will receive over €1 million, approximately R$6.3 million, per year. Totti himself explained the reasons for the decision, stating that he was looking for new challenges and eager to test himself.
Maxima Roma is a newly created project to put the Italian capital back among the protagonists of basketball in the country. The club guarantees presence in the national first division, representing Rome in the Italian basketball scene.
