Rock in Rio Metal Day Vocalists Face Accumulated Vocal Cord Ruptures

extra5 September 2026 at 08:04

The vocalists from the bands Avenged Sevenfold and Bring Me The Horizon, who are performing at Rock in Rio on Saturday, the 5th, on metal day, face serious vocal cord problems due to the demands of metal shows. M. Shadows, from Avenged Sevenfold, and Oliver Sykes, from Bring Me The Horizon, have already been warned by speech therapists and had to cancel performances to undergo vocal surgeries.

Avenged Sevenfold had to cancel the shows they would have done in Brazil last October. M. Shadows recorded a video explaining the situation to fans. He revealed that he has a hematoma on the left vocal cord, the same injury he had in 2017. At that time, he continued singing and took medication, which ended up resulting in surgery.

In 2025, the vocalist's situation worsened again. M. Shadows warned that if he doesn't stop singing now, he will face even worse consequences for his voice. The article highlights that the effort required to sustain high notes in metal shows demands proper warm-up and preparation; otherwise, the vocal folds suffer the consequences.
