The president of the Supreme Federal Court (STF), Edson Fachin, decided that he will take the lead on the cases that raised the Court's crisis to unprecedented levels. The dispute involves a clash between ministers Alexandre de Moraes and André Mendonça.
On Friday, Fachin removed from the fake news inquiry, which was being reported by Moraes, a request made by Mendonça himself for an investigation. The decision was made as part of efforts to quell the crisis.
Additionally, Fachin defended the closure of the fake news inquiry, which was opened seven years ago and has been the subject of controversy since then.
With this stance, the STF president seeks to control the situation and prevent the conflict between the two ministers from escalating further within the Court.
