BNDES reached R$ 3.35 billion in resources released from the Rio Doce Fund, which is destined for the reparation of damages caused by the rupture of the Mariana dam, in Minas Gerais, in 2015. This is a significant amount for the reconstruction and compensation actions in the region affected by the environmental disaster.
Part of these resources is specifically aimed at farmers and fishermen who were directly affected by the dam rupture. The objective is to mitigate the economic impacts that these communities suffered as a consequence of the disaster.
The payment program provides that those affected receive the equivalent of 1.5 minimum wage per month during a period of three years. This measure aims to guarantee temporary income for families that lost their sources of livelihood.
