Botafogo announced on Friday afternoon the signing of defender Arthur Chaves as a new addition to the team. At 25 years old, the defender arrives at the black-and-white club on loan from Hoffenheim, Germany, until the end of 2027. The club will pay one million euros, approximately R$ 6 million, for the deal. There is an obligation to purchase based on contractual targets, in which case the total transaction would be 6 million euros, approximately R$ 35.8 million.
Arthur Chaves was developed by Avaí and was transferred at a young age, at 21 years old, to Académico in Portugal. Subsequently, he was sold to Hoffenheim, where he was not having a great run of form despite being internally considered a high-potential athlete.
The player was mapped by Botafogo's scouting department, which had previously tried to sign him on other occasions. Besides Botafogo, the defender also interested Vasco, São Paulo, and other German teams during this transfer window.
Internally, Botafogo sees Arthur Chaves as a fast defender with good game reading. Although right-footed, the defender has the ability to play on both sides of the defense, which increases his versatility for the black-and-white team.
