Palmeiras coach Abel Ferreira was suspended for two matches by the Superior Court of Sports Justice (STJD) on Friday (4). The punishment results from an episode during the draw between Palmeiras and Mirassol, in the 25th round of the Brazilian Championship, when the coach kicked a microphone on the sideline. Abel was charged with anti-sporting conduct and will be unable to coach the team in the next two Brasileirão matches.
The first match Abel Ferreira cannot coach will be against Botafogo, this Sunday (6), at 6:30 PM, at Nilton Santos Stadium. The second match will be against São Paulo on September 12, at Nubank Parque.
This is not the first suspension for the Portuguese coach this season. Abel Ferreira had already been punished with seven matches of suspension this year, due to ejections in matches against Fluminense and São Paulo.
Palmeiras leads the Brasileirão with 52 points, one more than Flamengo, in second place. The penalty, however, does not apply to the Libertadores, allowing the coach to lead the Palmeiras team in the first leg of the semifinals against Botafogo, played last Tuesday.
