Julie Tétart is from Saint-Quentin, in northern France, and spent more than two decades playing in men's basketball leagues, mainly for ESC Tergnier, an amateur multisport club. She revealed that she was living a very difficult period, describing her situation as "a real hell" before she was able to accept herself.
In October 2021, at age 29, Tétart publicly came out as transgender, a step she had always wanted to take. However, the public reaction was negative and she stepped away from the sport for three very difficult years.
After this period away, Tétart returned to the courts with Monaco and became an icon on and off the court. Her performance caught the attention of French Ligue 1 teams, the French national team, and even the WNBA, the most powerful women's basketball league in the world.
