João César das Neves: "Fátima is a manifestation of the Gospel for our time"

In an interview with the Jornal da Madeira, economist and professor João César das Neves, author of "The Century of Fátima", argued that the Message of Fátima remains fully relevant in a world marked by wars, insecurity, and spiritual crisis in the West. The specialist warned of the risk of focusing only on prophecies and the secret of Fátima, emphasizing that the essential part of the message are the calls for prayer, sacrifice, and conversion of life. For him, the response to difficult times lies in devotion to the Immaculate Heart of Mary, with special emphasis on the Rosary and First Saturdays. Neves considered that "Fática is a manifestation of the Gospel for our time" and that the best path to reaching Christ is through Our Lady, although the message does not bring a new doctrine, but recalls what really matters: prayer, sacrifice, reparation, and conversion of the human heart.

UN 'corrects' world maps to better reflect Africa's size

The United Nations General Assembly approved a resolution, presented by Togo and supported by the African Union, that promotes a more accurate representation on world maps, particularly of Africa. The Mercator projection, used for centuries, distorts the sizes of continents, making Africa appear much smaller—when in reality it is about 14 times larger than Greenland. The resolution, approved with 164 votes in favor, one against (United States) and six abstentions, advocates for replacing it with the Equal Earth projection, which shows countries in proportional sizes. Togo argued that these distortions have caused significant consequences, contributing to an "unbalanced view" and affecting the "dignity of peoples". The USA harshly criticized the resolution, considering it "ridicules the work" of the UN and that it should focus on real problems of peace and prosperity. Implementation depends on the political will of member states, since General Assembly resolutions are not legally binding.

The measure comes amid a series of recent initiatives by the organization regarding the legacy of slavery, colonialism, and racial discrimination, including discussions on reparations and acknowledgments of historical injustices.

UN approves new world map: is the drawing we've used for centuries wrong?

The United Nations General Assembly approved a historic resolution aimed at changing the cartographic representation of the world, ending over 450 years of dominance of the Mercator projection, used since 1569. The change promises to transform how we see the globe, correcting distortions that have always favored the representation of northern continents at the expense of the south.
