IPMA analyzed the very high temperature values recorded in mainland Portugal on September 3, 2026, with new maximum temperatures for the season being verified.
Very high surface air temperature values were recorded, above normal for this time of year, representing new records for the month of September.
The cause of these very high values is related to atmospheric circulation conditioned by a small depression with effects in the middle and upper troposphere.
IPMA continues to monitor the situation and collect data on these record temperatures recorded in mainland Portugal.
