Two workers were rescued alive, this Friday, from the tunnels of the Trishuli hydroelectric power plant in Nepal. The men had been trapped for nine days after a devastating flood hit the country, causing destruction to the power plant's infrastructure.
Rescue teams continue to work on rescue operations to try to save the remaining workers. According to Nepali authorities, approximately 900 workers are reported missing distributed across 12 hydroelectric power plants affected by the catastrophe.
Authorities estimate that approximately 500 of these workers may be trapped inside tunnels, which makes rescue operations particularly complex and urgent. Emergency teams face enormous challenges to access these underground areas.
The rescue of the two workers represents a moment of hope in the midst of this tragedy, but authorities warn that the number of victims may still increase significantly as searches for survivors continue in the tunnels of the various hydroelectric power plants affected by the flood.
