Contextile 2026, a biennial of contemporary textile art, takes place in Guimarães under the theme "By a Thread," proposing a reflection on the major issues of our time, namely environmental, social, and economic crises, through different languages of contemporary textile art.
The pre-opening program kicked off today at 5:00 PM with public interventions in three emblematic spaces of downtown Guimarães: Largo Conde Arnoso, Museu de Alberto Sampaio, and Arquivo Municipal de Guimarães. At 6:00 PM, this was followed by the initiative "A change in the weather?" at Sociedade Martins Sarmento and Palacete Santiago.
The official opening of Contextile 2026 takes place on Saturday, September 5th, with the first activity "Growing House" at 11:00 AM at Espaço Curtir Ciência. The central moment of the biennial's launch occurs during the afternoon, with the unveiling of the international exhibition at 4:30 PM at the Centro Cultural Vila Flor.
Over the coming weeks, Guimarães transforms into a meeting point for artists, creators, and audiences interested in contemporary textile art, with exhibitions, installations, and various proposals spread across several spaces in the city.
