The Municipality of São Brás de Alportel will provide free school transport for the 2026/2027 school year through a network of 11 routes identified by colors, such as Green, Yellow, Blue, Red, Orange, Purple, Pink, and Dark Blue. The measure aims to ensure safe and appropriate travel for students, promoting the use of public transport as an alternative to individual transport.
The routes cover different localities and zones of the municipality, ensuring travel to EB 2,3 Poeta Bernardo de Passos School, Escola Secundária José Belchior Viegas, and primary schools in Alportel, Mesquita, and Vilarinhos. There is one daily trip in the early morning between home and school, and two daily trips on school days between the educational establishments and students' residences.
The timetables were defined in coordination with the School Grouping. Routes for EB 2,3 Poeta Bernardo de Passos School and the Secondary School have scheduled departures, depending on the zone, between 7:00 and 7:35. For primary schools, departures are scheduled at 7:50. Special routes are implemented when existing public transport does not adequately meet the students' needs.
The Municipal School Transport Plan was prepared based on the estimated number of students to be transported, information provided by the School Grouping, and an analysis of transport needs.
