Diesel and gasoline prices will surge next week

Diário de Coimbra4 September 2026 at 13:50

The prices of diesel and gasoline will increase next week, according to published projections. Diesel is expected to reach 2.169 euros per liter, while 95 gasoline will reach 2.142 euros per liter.

This price increase is related to geopolitical tension in the Middle East, which has affected international oil markets. The instability in the region has contributed to the rise in fuel prices.

There is also the possibility of a reduction in ISP (Excise Tax on Petroleum Products), which could partially mitigate the impact on consumers. However, the measure has not yet been confirmed.

Holders of these bank accounts can never have a negative balance except in this situation

Bank account holders in Portugal cannot, as a rule, have a negative balance, since overdraft facilities cannot be associated with these accounts. However, the Bank of Portugal provides for an exception for certain debit card payments, including some tolls, which may leave the account temporarily negative. This happens because some payments are not debited immediately, allowing the holder to use the available money before the operation is processed. Although banks may accept these operations, they are not obliged to do so, and the negative amount must be regularized by the holder, with it being advisable to distinguish between the accounting balance and the available balance to avoid surprises.

Neither oven nor refrigerator: this appliance may be the biggest 'culprit' of electricity spending in your kitchen

An article reveals that the induction cooktop may be the appliance that consumes the most electricity in the kitchen, reaching about 748 kWh per year, a value higher than the 270 kWh of a refrigerator and the 496 kWh of an electric oven. Although its high power allows food to heat up quickly, consumption depends on frequency of use. The article suggests tips to reduce expenses, such as choosing the appropriate cooking zone for the size of the container, using lids, avoiding leaving the cooktop on unnecessarily, and for heating small quantities, considering the microwave as a more economical alternative.
