The Lisbon City Council inaugurated in Largo da Oliveirinha, on Calçada da Glória, a memorial to the 16 fatal victims of the Glória Funicular derailment, which occurred on September 3, 2025, exactly one year earlier. The memorial consists of 16 limestone blocks arranged radially around a 150-year-old centenary olive tree, each engraved with the name of a victim, and includes integrated lighting and benches in natural stone. The inauguration ceremony was attended by victims' families, embassy representatives, security forces and the Patriarch of Lisbon, with the City Council President, Carlos Moedas, describing the day as "very sad" for Lisbon. Throughout the day, Lisbon residents and tourists paid tribute at the site, while trade unionists and colleagues of the brakeman André Marques laid flowers on Calçada da Glória. Investigations by the Public Prosecutor's Office and GPIAAF continue, with the final report expected in 2027 and compensation already paid by insurer Fidelidade totaling 2.3 million euros.
