Officer Trenton Garner, 24, has been identified as the agent who shot and killed a baby donkey during a search operation for a missing 12-year-old girl on Saturday night (29) in the state of Georgia. The case has sparked national backlash in the United States and is now being investigated by state authorities.
According to the incident report, analyzed by the Daily Mail, officers and a search dog team were following footprints that led to a pasture at Elsberry Riding and Farm when they encountered the animal, named Heehaw. Garner stated that the donkey began to charge at the team. Before the shot, a canine unit officer tried to drive the animal away with a taser, without success.
Garner said he then used his Glock 17 to protect himself, another officer, and the members of the search team. The officer stated that he fired to protect himself, the canine unit officer, and the remaining members of the search team.
