Hearing loss: artificial intelligence is redefining the way we hear in noisy environments

SAPO Notícias4 September 2026 at 11:36

Hearing loss goes beyond simply hearing less, and can require the brain to make a constant effort to understand conversations, distinguish voices from background noise, and keep up with everyday situations. This condition significantly affects the quality of life of those who suffer from it.

João Ferrão, director of audiology at Widex, analyzes in an interview how artificial intelligence is transforming hearing aids, making them more adaptive and personalized to each user's needs.

According to the specialist, artificial intelligence allows hearing devices to automatically adjust to different sound environments, improving users' ability to hear in noisy situations.

However, the interview highlights that technology does not replace the decisive role of the audiologist in the hearing rehabilitation process, emphasizing the importance of specialized professional follow-up.
