Famalicão celebrates Bernardino Machado's legacy with seven-kilometer walk

Braga TV4 September 2026 at 12:04

The city of Vila Nova de Famalicão will host, on September 19, the initiative "Walk with Bernardino", a seven-kilometer walk integrated into the celebrations of the 25th anniversary of the Bernardino Machado Museum. The departure is scheduled for 15:00, at Praça D. Maria II, next to the former Solar dos Machados. The route, of medium difficulty, will take place in the riverside area of the city, along the Pelhe river.

The activity is organized by the Municipal Council of Vila Nova de Famalicão in partnership with the Bernardino Machado Museum, which this year celebrates its 25th anniversary. Bernardino Machado was a Portuguese politician and diplomat who served as president of the Republic in two distinct periods, between 1914 and 1917 and between 1925 and 1926.

The walk aims to promote knowledge about the life and legacy of Bernardino Machado, a historical figure of reference for the municipality. The event is open to all interested participants, without prior registration, and is expected to gather a significant number of participants to celebrate this anniversary.

Former American Governor Arrested After Refusing to Pay Child Support

The former governor of Kentucky, Matthew Bevin, 59 years old, was arrested on Thursday after refusing to pay child support to his son, Jonah Bevin. The Republican, who governed the American state between 2015 and 2019, disobeyed court orders and was detained on a film set after Judge Angela J. Johnson issued a warrant. The magistrate from Jefferson County Family Court had ordered Bevin to submit documents detailing his income and assets to determine the child support amount, but the politician had been repeatedly ignoring the demands since 2025. According to the son's lawyer, Bevin sent only partial documents with essential information omitted, which was not accepted by the judge.
