The former governor of the American state of Kentucky, Matthew Bevin, 59 years old, was arrested on Thursday (3) for failing to pay child support. Authorities informed The New York Times newspaper on Friday (4) about the arrest of the Republican, who governed the state from 2015 to 2019. Bevin was detained on a film set after Judge Angela J. Johnson, from Jefferson County Family Court, issued an arrest warrant.
The magistrate had ordered the politician to submit documents to the court detailing his income and assets so that the amount of child support owed to his son, Jonah Bevin, could be determined. The goal was to determine how much Bevin should pay and ensure compliance with payments. However, Matthew Bevin has repeatedly ignored the demands of the request since 2025, according to information from Jonah's lawyer, John Helmers Jr., to the Times.
Bevin sent to the courts only some documents, but with essential information covered or omitted, which was not accepted by the judge. The refusal to fully comply with court orders led to the issuance of the arrest warrant and the consequent detention of the former governor.
