The Specialized Group on Public Security Action of the Public Ministry of the State of Rio de Janeiro (GAESP/MPRJ) denounced and arrested three civil police officers accused of participating in a scheme of charging bribes to companies in the municipality of São Gonçalo.
The three police officers were arrested in an operation carried out by MPRJ, which identified the practice of corruption crimes involving civil police officers who demanded illegal payments from local companies.
The denunciation presented by GAESP states that the police officers used their positions to coerce businesses into paying improper amounts, constituting the crime of extortion under color of official authority and corruption.
The case is part of investigations by the Public Ministry of Rio de Janeiro in combating corruption and crimes committed by public agents against public property and free economic initiative in the state.
