Piracy is also present in the services sector through 'hacks'

Piracy and counterfeiting are not limited to physical products, also affecting the services sector through the so-called "gatos". Anatel's enforcement division warned about the specific risks of TV Boxes, devices increasingly present in Brazilian homes.

Anatel's superintendent of enforcement, Gesiléa Teles, highlighted that many people are attracted to these products due to access to illegal audiovisual content. She explained that there are pirate TV Boxes that are homologated by Anatel, and the agency maintains a list of products that are safe and meet cybersecurity requirements.

Anatel estimates that between 4 to 6 million TV Boxes are already in Brazilian homes, which is considered very concerning. According to Teles, the lack of cybersecurity in these devices turns TV Boxes into entry vectors for organized crime in households.

According to the superintendent, international organized crime is able to access these devices and, from them, begin to commit various types of crimes.
