The municipality of Oliveira do Hospital, through the project designated "Planalto Beirão", implemented a new selective collection system for food biowaste. This initiative aims to significantly improve the separation and recovery of food waste generated in the region.
The system is based on the placement of proximity containers distributed throughout the municipality. These containers allow inhabitants to deliver their food waste in a convenient and accessible manner, facilitating community participation in the correct separation of biowaste.
The collected biowaste will subsequently be recovered, contributing to more sustainable waste management and the local circular economy. This approach represents an important step in the municipality's environmental strategy to reduce the amount of waste sent to landfill.
The "Planalto Beirão" project is part of national and European targets for increasing selective biowaste collection, simultaneously promoting environmental awareness among citizens of the Planalto Beirão region.
