The play "The Worst Professor in the World," by the Algarve-based company Lama Teatro, returns to Lisbon on September 26 and 27 for two performances at Boutique Cultura. The show aims to highlight the importance of exercising the right to vote and its motto is to remember that History can also be told with humor.
The play is inspired by the story of Carolina Beatriz Ângelo, the first woman to vote in Portugal, and addresses themes such as democracy, voting, and the memory of remarkable teachers. The show revolves around an eccentric, bored, passionate, severe, and undisciplined professor who gives a class about Carolina Beatriz Ângelo but also teaches how to fold a piece of paper, representing the vote.
The show has text by Diana Costa e Silva, Hugo Van der Ding, and João de Brito, who also signs the direction and performance. Based on an idea by João de Brito, the play has already toured dozens of schools and stages in Portugal as well as in Angola, Brazil, Cabo Verde, and Macau.
The production is a joint initiative of Lama Teatro, Cineteatro Louletano, and Centro Cultural de Lagos. The costumes are by José António Tenente, and the lighting design, technical direction, and operation are by Sincronia.
