French tennis player Gaël Monfils, 40 years old, announced his retirement from professional tennis after a career spanning more than two decades. The former world number 6 revealed his career transition plans during his farewell to the US Open.

Monfils will begin working in the financial sector in 2027, as a wealth manager at the Swiss company Alphaswiss. The Frenchman stated that this new phase represents something he is passionate about and that he has been preparing for this change for several years.

The former athlete lives in Switzerland with his wife, fellow tennis player Elina Svitolina, and their daughter Skai. The career change did not happen overnight, as his interest in the financial market had been cultivated alongside his routine as a professional athlete.
