EMARP reinforces awareness at Monte Canelas with new signage

Jornal do Algarve4 September 2026 at 10:35

The Municipal Water and Waste Company of Portimão (EMARP) reinforced environmental awareness actions in the Monte Canelas urbanization, through the installation of new informative signage and direct communication to residents. The initiative aimed to promote balanced use of the ecological islands and prevent improper waste disposal.

The action arose following the excessive concentration of waste at the ecological island located on Rua da Amendoeira, which has recorded significantly higher usage than the other islands in the neighborhood. EMARP therefore decided to implement measures to better distribute the flow of users among the four existing ecological islands in Monte Canelas.

The new signage presents the message "Good Environment starts here!" and includes the location of the four ecological islands in the urbanization, encouraging citizens to use the one closest to their homes. The informative support also provides details about the free collection service for bulky items, green waste and small DIY renovation waste.

Residents can schedule the free collection through a QR Code, by telephone contact 808 282 260 or by email at [email protected], thus offering alternatives for waste that should not be deposited in the ecological islands.
