The weekly market in Guimarães takes place today at Campo de São Mamede, after the transfer from the usual market location. This temporary change is expected to continue until the end of the year, during which time a covered structure equipped with photovoltaic panels will be installed. The intervention is part of a municipal energy community project promoted by the Municipality of Guimarães and aims to significantly improve the market's operating conditions, providing greater comfort and protection for traders and visitors, especially during the winter months and periods of adverse weather conditions.
During this period, traders and market sellers are exempt from paying municipal fees related to the occupied spaces. This measure results from an agreement between the Municipality and the representative association of the sector, seeking to compensate for the inconveniences associated with the temporary change of location.
To facilitate access to the new market location, Guimabus Line 3 becomes free every Friday. The measure is intended to support travel to the Retail Market, which runs between 07:00 and 20:00, with a frequency of passage between 20 and 30 minutes.
The Line 3 route is circular, connecting the Bus Station, on Alameda, to the Market Field. Along the route, the line passes through various areas of the city, including Azurém and Madre Deus, serving more than two dozen stops, such as Conde Margaride, Escola Secundária Francisco de Holanda, Universidade do Minho, Câmara Municipal, Guimarães Station, GuimarãeShopping and Hospital. On weekdays, buses operate from 07:00 to 20:00, maintaining the same schedule on Saturdays, Sundays and public holidays, although with longer intervals between services.
