Ministers Alexandre de Moraes and André Mendonça were summoned by the president of the Supreme Federal Court, Edson Fachin, to provide clarifications about the internal crisis at the Court within five days. In addition to the two ministers, Fachin also demanded a statement from the attorney general of the Republic, Paulo Gonet, and the director-general of the Federal Police, Andrei Rodrigues.
The crisis escalated on Thursday night when Alexandre de Moraes asked that André Mendonça be investigated. The request was made within the scope of the fake news inquiry, in which Moraes points to suspicions of abuse of authority, administrative improbity, and crime of responsibility in conducting investigations into Banco Master and embezzlement at the INSS.
In the representation sent to Fachin, Moraes accuses his colleague of breaking judicial impartiality and benefiting certain political groups. The dispatch argues that Mendonça deliberately selected specific targets, citing Moraes himself and the president of the Senate, Davi Alcolumbre.
