The Venice Film Festival 2026 kicked off with emphasis on three films that marked the beginning of the competition. Among them, "Ink", directed by Danny Boyle, addresses the success and controversies of the British tabloid "The Sun", filmed with a fury that critics compared to the style of "Trainspotting". Werner Herzog presented "Bucking Fastard", with sisters Kate and Rooney Mara in the cast.

Martin McDonagh was also in the spotlight with the comedy "Wild Horse Nine", set in Chile during the Allende period, featuring John Malkovich in the lead role. This film represents the first work to shine in this edition of the festival.

George Clooney was another central figure at the opening of the event, having been honored for his career during the opening ceremony of the Venice Film Festival, thus recognizing his contribution to world cinema.

The festival's opening was thus marked by the diversity of styles and nationalities of the films presented, from political satire to historical drama, passing through McDonagh's sharp comedy.
