September brings back to Lanhelas the flavor of Soles
The traditional Sole Festival begins today in the parish of Lanhelas. The event returns for another edition, celebrating one of the most characteristic manifestations of this community.
The sole has always been part of the daily life of the families of Lanhelas who lived from fishing. The river constituted one of the main sources of livelihood for these fishermen and their families.
To ensure the preservation of the fish, the sole was prepared in various ways, including salted, dried, and smoked. These techniques allowed the food to be preserved for longer, being an essential part of the local diet.
