The Federal Police is investigating former governor Cláudio Castro (PL) for having broken a lease contract of a house in Petrópolis, in the Mountainous region of Rio, a few days after estimating a R$ 245 thousand work to renovate the property's wine cellar. The contract termination occurred at the beginning of this year, and Castro claimed the "impossibility" of remaining in the house due to "adjustments applied to the rent value," which was R$ 3.5 thousand monthly.
The sudden change happened shortly after Castro was removed by the Superior Electoral Court (TSE) for abuse of political and economic power, in March. The information about the use of the property is part of Operation Sem Refino, launched in August of this year.
The Office of the Attorney General of Brazil (PGR) used this information to conclude that the former governor used the house in some improper way, although the article is incomplete and does not bring the final conclusion of the PGR on the case.
