A process to develop a Health Pact is underway in Portugal, aimed at defining priorities and the vision for the country's health sector. Most of the entities involved have already been heard as part of this consultation process.
Health Minister Seguro is expected to present the first assessment of the pact at year-end, when an evaluation of progress made so far is anticipated.
Among the topics discussed are access to family doctors, animal health, waiting times for consultations and surgeries, and territorial inequalities in access to healthcare. These topics reflect the main concerns identified during consultations with the various entities.
The pact aims to provide insights into the health model that may be implemented in the future, covering different dimensions of the system, from primary care to public health, including equity in access throughout the national territory.
