The government of Pedro Sánchez faces political pressure to harden its stance against Morocco after the massive immigrant assault on Ceuta on July 30. The entirety of the opposition and part of public opinion demand that the president stop exonerating the Alawite kingdom for these events.
However, Sánchez resists these demands. He claims there are no conclusive proofs of Moroccan government participation, despite a police report indicating that Moroccan agents guided the immigrants to the border and organized the assault.
The president of the government maintains that it is prudent to continue cooperating with Morocco, since thousands of Moroccan citizens still have to be returned to Spanish territory. If Morocco closes the fence, that possibility disappears.
