Sánchez will resume his housing offensive with the presentation of the new public Idealista

El Periódico Mediterráneo - General4 September 2026 at 06:23

The Spanish Government intends to resume its offensive on housing and is preparing a major event for Monday, February 17, to present the new public Idealista, a public real estate platform. The event is expected to feature the presence of the head of the Executive, Pedro Sánchez, according to more than three sources confirmed to the newspaper EL PERIÓDICO.

This will be the first official presentation of the Housing Ministry led by Isabel Rodríguez after the failure last July, when the government failed to gather sufficient parliamentary majority to approve the decree that planned to extend rental contracts, create new taxes and bonuses.

The new public real estate platform emerges as part of the Executive's strategy to face the housing crisis in the country, competing with existing private platforms such as Idealista, which gives its name to the government project. Sánchez's government thus hopes to demonstrate its commitment to housing policies after the previous legislative failure.
