Fifa accuses Uefa of plotting 'defamation campaign'; European confederation opposes Infantino

oglobo3 September 2026 at 23:54

FIFA accused UEFA of promoting a "defamation campaign" against the entity, according to documents obtained by AFP. The conflict occurs in the context of the European confederation's opposition to the president of the world football governing body, Gianni Infantino.

UEFA asked the United States courts to force FIFA to deliver documents related to a failed plan to attract investors for the World Cup. The European confederation strongly rejected the project, presented in July, even threatening to boycott the tournament if the initiative was not abandoned.

Although FIFA quickly backed down in the face of criticism from a significant part of the football world and ended the plan, UEFA remained dissatisfied. The European confederation is preparing possible legal measures against the entity.
