SMAS de Leiria buys generators and invests in internal communications network

SAPO Notícias3 September 2026 at 22:51

The Municipal Water and Sanitation Services of Leiria (SMAS) will invest in buying generators for their facilities and in an internal communications network. This decision comes as a response to the impacts caused by depression Kristin on the functioning of services.

The municipality of Leiria approved this investment which aims to strengthen the energy autonomy and communication capacity of SMAS in emergency situations. With the new generators, services will be able to remain operational even during power outages.

The internal communications network will allow better coordination between the different SMAS facilities, ensuring faster responses in case of incidents. This investment comes following the failures that occurred during the passage of depression Kristin.
