A memorial was inaugurated in honour of the victims of the Glória Elevator accident in Lisbon, exactly one year after the incident. The event was held to remember the people affected by the accident that occurred at this historic infrastructure in the city.

The president of the Lisbon Municipal Chamber was present at the ceremony and faced questions about the open letter sent by victims and families. In the letter, they strongly criticise the lack of communication and support from authorities since the accident.

According to the report, some victims stated that the only contact they received from the council was precisely the invitation to the memorial inauguration ceremony, reinforcing the perception of abandonment by the responsible entities.

The Glória Elevator is a centenary and highly emblematic infrastructure in Lisbon, connecting the city centre to the Bairro Alto district. The accident that occurred a year ago resulted in fatalities and injuries, generating great public outrage and various questions about the safety of this and other similar infrastructures.
