Ceuta, for me, represents the end of the idea of Europe. It questions a fundamental value, the solidarity with a country that was attacked

Miguel Sousa Tavares considered that Ceuta represents the end of the idea of Europe and that this situation calls into question a fundamental value: solidarity with a country that was attacked.

The Portuguese commentator and writer stated that Spain was "attacked" by Morocco with the entry of 80 thousand people in Ceuta, in a reference to the migratory crisis that occurred in May 2021, when thousands of people attempted to cross the border between Morocco and the Spanish enclave.

Sousa Tavares also expressed his opinion about the Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez, considering him "the black sheep of Europe" and a leader who "speaks for himself", criticizing the way the Spanish government handled the situation.

Miguel Sousa Tavares' statement was made in the context of the diplomatically delicate crisis between Spain and Morocco, triggered by the events in Ceuta, where Moroccan authorities are believed to have facilitated the passage of thousands of migrants to Spanish territory.
