Dog daycare in Botafogo reported on suspicion of animal abuse; police investigate

oglobo3 September 2026 at 21:24

A dog daycare and boarding facility called Pitucos da Lu, located on Rua Doutor Sousa Lopes in Botafogo, in the South Zone of Rio de Janeiro, is the target of a police investigation on suspicion of animal abuse. The case is being investigated by the 10th Police Station (Botafogo).

The complaints were filed by pet owners and former employee Genesis Sousa Cardoso Martins, who claims to have recorded videos, audio, and messages showing the establishment's operations and alleged evidence of assaults committed against the animals. The material was forwarded to the police station for investigation.

The complaints gained prominence after an operation conducted by State Deputy Marcelo Queiroz at the location. Since then, the pet owners have been sharing information with each other about what they allegedly witnessed at the establishment.

Some pet owners were approached by the former caretaker, who claims to have decided to gather the evidence before leaving his job. Martins claims he worked at the location, but information about the duration or details of his employment was cut off in the available text.
