The family of one of the fatal victims of the Glória elevator accident demands a formal apology from Carris, the transport company responsible for the funicular. The accident occurred a year ago, on 3 September 2025, when the Glória elevator derailed.
The accident caused 16 deaths and 24 injuries, affecting mainly foreign tourists who were using the elevator. It was one of Lisbon's main tourist attractions, connecting the city centre to the upper town.
Carris has yet to issue a formal apology to the families of the victims, which prompted this demand from the relatives. The accident remains one of the deadliest in the history of transport in Portugal.
