After blaming Russia for attack on airport, Germany arrests Bulgarians for attempted arson of building with defense companies in Munich

German police announced on Thursday the arrest of a 38-year-old man and a 28-year-old woman, both Bulgarian citizens, suspected of launching incendiary devices against a building in Munich that houses several defense sector companies. Rohde & Schwarz, a technology company that provides equipment to the German Armed Forces and other countries, confirmed to AFP that incendiary devices were found near its facilities in the southern German city.

The case occurs at a time of tension in relations between Germany and Russia, after Berlin attributed to Moscow responsibility for a "hybrid attack" with armed drones against Leipzig-Halle Airport, in early August. The accusations against Russia were classified by Putin as a "serious mistake."

NATO and the European Union promised unity against Russia amid this scenario of diplomatic escalation between the Western bloc and the Russian government. The article does not specify whether there is any connection between the two cases, but the arrests occur in the broader context of tensions between Berlin and Moscow.
