Prime Minister Luís Montenegro is expected to inaugurate the new Courthouse in Beja on September 15, at a ceremony that should also feature the presence of the Minister of Justice, Rita Alarcão Júdice. The attendance was reported by local media, although they are not yet listed on the official schedules of the Government and the Ministry of Justice.
The new building represents an investment of 6,953,700.45 euros and was constructed on land ceded by the Municipality of Beja, next to Rua Tenente-Coronel Salgueiro Maia. With a construction area of 3,562 square meters, distributed over three floors and two autonomous wings connected by a common atrium, the Courthouse will allow the Administrative and Tax Court, the Family and Minors Court, the Labour Court and the Local Civil Court to be concentrated in the same space.
The construction contract was awarded in September 2022, with an initial execution deadline of 540 days, having been carried out by the company Nova Gente – Empreitadas and the architectural project developed by Atelier Carvalho Araújo. The works were formally received by the Ministry of Justice in May this year.
The new facility should improve working conditions for magistrates and judicial staff, as well as service to citizens, bringing together services that currently operate in different locations spread throughout the city. Confirmation of the ceremony program should be released in the coming days.
