Loures City Hall distributes 20,000 bracelets that detect the "rape drug" in drinks

SAPO Notícias3 September 2026 at 18:58

The Municipality of Loures will distribute 20,000 bracelets that detect the presence of GHB, known as the "rape drug," in drinks. This initiative aims to protect citizens, particularly in night entertainment contexts.

The distribution of the bracelets will begin next Saturday, with the delivery of the first 5,000 units during DJ Carl Cox's concert. The event takes place at Papa Francisco Park, a venue that hosts large cultural and entertainment events.

The bracelets function as a prevention mechanism, allowing users to check if their drink has been adulterated with the GHB substance. GHB is a drug frequently associated with sexual assault cases due to its sedative effects when mixed with alcoholic drinks.

This measure by the Loures municipality comes within the scope of prevention and security policies, seeking to reduce the risks associated with substance consumption in festive environments.

Hungary maintains automatic asylum for Ukrainians of military age contradicting the European Union

Hungary announced it will continue to offer automatic asylum to Ukrainian men of military age (25 to 60 years), contradicting a European Union decision from July. Prime Minister Péter Magyar justified the measure by the presence of ethnic Hungarians in the Transcarpathia region in Ukraine, who flee to Hungary. The EU had decided on Ukraine's defensive needs, but Budapest maintains its differentiated reception position.
