The Central Bank broke a new record for extrajudicial liquidations of financial institutions by closing the activities of managers Trustee and Banvox, controlled by Maurício Quadrado, former partner of Daniel Vorcaro at Banco Master. With these two liquidations, the number of institutions with activities closed by BC order in 2026 reaches 17, the highest number since 2002, when there were 24.
This year's liquidations are mostly related to the Banco Master scandal. Under president Gabriel Galípolo's management, started in 2025, the total of liquidations reaches 21, having started with the intervention in Master last November.
In public statements, the BC president has argued that interventions strictly follow the technical governance manual and are not motivated by punitivism or political persecution.
In the case of institutions linked to the Master schemes, operations were only closed when effectively liquidity ran out to pay bills scheduled for the same day, or due to strong ties to these accounts.
