The United States announced on Thursday sanctions against Fidel Ernesto Castro Calis, identified as one of the grandchildren of historic Cuban leader Raúl Castro. The measure also targeted five economic and banking entities on the island, including Cuba's Banco Exterior.
Among the targets of the sanctions are also four entities that exploit Cuba's natural resources or energy reserves for the benefit of the regime, according to the statement by US Secretary of State Marco Rubio.
The new wave of sanctions comes in a context of stalled negotiations between Washington and Havana. President Donald Trump's administration is demanding fundamental political and economic changes on the island.
In response, Havana denounces the blockade imposed by the United States against the country.
