The Food and Economic Security Authority (ASAE) initiated two misdemeanor proceedings against factory ships inspected in the Algarve, due to lack of hygiene conditions. Nine professional fishing vessels were inspected as part of this operation.
The operation took place on Wednesday and was carried out jointly by ASAE, the Portuguese Navy and the Maritime Police. The objective was to verify the conditions of preparation, processing and packaging of fish in factory trawlers operating on the high seas.
During the inspection, licensing rules, operating conditions, space organization, as well as product conservation and storage were verified. The condition of the vessels, operator training and the implementation of self-control systems were also analyzed.
The operation had 12 ASAE inspectors, 11 Navy soldiers and five Maritime Police agents.
