Guilhofrei, a parish in the municipality of Vieira do Minho, hosts on September 20 a Traditional Corn Huskling. The initiative is promoted by the Municipality of Vieira do Minho with the aim of recovering and preserving practices associated with rural life in the municipality.
The event programming begins at 3:00 PM and features as its central moment the traditional husking of corn cobs, a recreation of an activity that for decades was part of the daily life of rural communities in the region.
The husking was a common practice in agricultural areas, where people would gather to remove the leaves from the corn cobs after harvest. This activity had a strong social character, often accompanied by singing and fellowship among the participants.
The event thus seeks to keep the memory of these traditions alive and provide new generations with the opportunity to learn about and experience activities that were fundamental to rural life in Minho for many decades.
